Epoxy Fairing Compound for Marine Applications

Description
A light weight two-component epoxy compound containing glass micro spheres formulated to provide flexibility and excellent adhesion to steel, G.R.P., wood and Ferro-cement surfaces and to promote ease of sanding.

Uses
A fairing compound for yacht hulls, decks, super structures and any interior surfaces requiring profiling or smoothing.

Surface preparation
Any surface to be treated must be clean, dry, sound and free of contamination with foreign matter. Vacuum cleaning and wiping with Ivory Epoxy Thinners is recommended.

Smooth surfaces to be thoroughly abraded to provide a key.

Teak and oil containing woods to be thoroughly treated with acetone to provide oil free bonding surface.

Mixing
All material should be stored in a cool place prior to mixing. As the mixed component has a limited pot life, prepare only sufficient material as can be applied within the limits of the components pot life. An increase in the temperature of either the compound components or the working environment will reduce the pot life.

Mix on a flat, clean surface such as a board or plate. Measure out quantities strictly in accordance with mixing ratio and thoroughly mix to a homogeneous material using a spatula, paint scrapper etc.

Application
Spread the mixed material evenly over the surface requiring filling using a trowel, scraper or a Perspex or plastic fairing strip. Do not apply in layers exceeding 4mm. Allow layers to cure, sand off any high points utilizing a sanding board and reapply compound into any depressions remaining. Continue until a smooth even profile is achieved.

Ivory 315F, finishing compound can then be applied to provide the final smooth surface required to achieve a perfect finish for painting.
