Marmoleum

DESCRIPTION

Marmoleum is a linoleum floor-covering which is manufactured predominantly from natural raw materials. Available in 2Gm wide sheeting and certain colours in 500mm x 500mm tiles, Marmoleum has a subtle marble decoration, is extremely durable and offers excellent appearance retention with low associated maintenance costs. The sheet and tile products offer superb handling, good flexibility and excellent indentation properties. Marmoleum is suitable for use in a wide variety of different installations including hospitals, airports, schools, offices, foyers, canteens, bar areas, restaurants, public buildings etc.

COLOURS
The colour range consists of 104 architecturally selected colours. (16 colours ex stock RSA).

UNDER FLOOR HEATING

Marmoleum is suitable for use with under floor heating systems. It is, however, important that a screed temperature of 27°C is not exceeded and therefore it is essential that a control thermostat be incorporated in the screed. The underfloor heating should be switched off for 48 hours prior to, during and 48 hours after the laying of Marmoleum.

FIRE RESISTANCE
Marmoleum has self-extinguishing properties and will not contribute to the spread of flame. Marmoleum has an SABS fire classification rating of Class 2. Tested to DIN 4102-1: Marmoleum is classified Bi which is difficult to ignite. Tested to draft ISO DIR 9239 the values for critical Radiant Flux show suitablility for all types of public and hospital buildings. In the event of a fire, Marmoleum does not give off corrosive hydrochloric acid gases.

CHEMICAL RESISTANCE

The manufacturing process of Marmoleum ensures a natural resistance to attack by most acids, common oils, greases and general household chemicals in diluted form. Not resistant to prolonged exposure to alkalis. It is however, recommended that the advice of the Marley Technical Department be obtained should this material be subjected to regular contact with chemicals or solvents. In accordance to EN 423

ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE
Marmoleum meets the requirements of BS EN 100 015 for floors not required for grounding personnel. Safety resistance measured as per VDE 0100/1610>5 x 10 ohms. The static charge on persons remains under 2kV as measured per EN 1815. Suitable for use with electrical equipment and computers to IBM/ICL standards.

SUB-FLOORS
Marmoleum is suitable for installation on most types of sub-floors, but in the case of direct to earth concrete, it is essential that a damp proof membrane is incorporated. Ensure that the sub-floor is completely smooth, level, hard, dry and clean before laying commences. The final appearance and ultimate wearability of the floor-covering is governed by the surface upon which it is layed and care should be taken to ensure that the right foundation is provided.
ALL SUB-FLOORS ARE TO BE TESTED FOR MOISTURE PRIOR TO INSTALLATION. The Marley Technical Department can offer advice in this regard.
WELDING

Marmoleum will not shrink or open at the seams therefore welding is not obligatory. The product can be hot welded using Marmoweld if required. Such welding is advised wherever frequent spillages are likely or wet maintenance methods are used, to ensure a watertight hygienic seam and improve appearance retention.

ADHESIVE
An approved adhesive is to be used.

MAINTENANCE

Do not attempt to remove the factory applied ETC finish before starting maintenance. The newly laid Marmoleum floor should, 72 hours after installation, be washed with a diluted neutral detergent complying with SABS 825 and thoroughly rinsed. Marmoleum floors will retain their excellent appearance if an occasional application of acrylic or metalised emulsion polish complying with SABS 1042 is applied, when required.

INDENTATION RESISTANCE & FLEXIBILITY

Meets the requirements of EN 548 when tested to EN 433 with a typical indent of 0.08mm against a permitted standard of 0.15mm. Bent around a 35mm mandrel at 23°C, in accordance with BS6826:1987 and EN 548, Marmoleum will not crack.

SUGGESTED SPECIFICATION
Tiles: - Supply and fix 2,5 mm thick x 500mm x 500mm Marmoleum tiles, manufactured to specification, laid in a recommended adhesive, spread with an approved applicator, on a previously prepared sub-floor by builder, as described above and elsewhere measured, including all cuttings and waste. Floor to be rolled with a 68kg 3 section metal roller on completion.
Sheeting: - Supply and fix 2,5mm thick x 2m wide Marmoleum sheeting manufactured to specification, laid in a recommended adhesive, spread with an approved applicator. All loints to be butted or grooved and heat welded ensuring that the Marmoweld bonds to more than 70% of the sheet thickness on a previously prepared sub- floor by builder as described above and elsewhere measured, including all cuttings and waste. It is essential on completion the installation be rolled with a 68kg three section metal roller. Marmoleum sheeting should be washed on completion with a diluted neutral detergent complying with SABS 825 and rinsed thoroughly. After the floor has dried, apply two coats of a water-based floor dressing complying with SABS 1042.
