How to use Provisional Amounts, etc.

  1. Provisional amounts:
Provisional amount must be included in the specification for work to be performed by nominated/selected subcontractors, a specification for which should be drawn up at the appropriate time during the contract.  When using this function in AutoSpec you will be asked for the amount in Rands and in words.  You will also be asked to enter a description of the work to be done.  Each different amount you create will be included in the Provisional Amounts trade in the specification document and the heading of Provisional amounts.

Each amount will have a profit clause where the tendering contractor may put and allowance as well as an attendance item where he can allow for the work he would need to do for the particular subcontract.

  2. Prime cost amounts:
These amounts are to be included in the specification documents for the delivered costs of materials which have not been decided on  and specified, e.g., R200/m2 for floor tiling.  Each amount will have a profit clause as well.

  3. Monetary and budgetary allowances:
Budgetary allowances are for estimates of work that you haven’t designed and included on your drawing but know will be constructed once you have the brief.

Monetary amounts are for allowing for construction contingencies, CPAP, municipal connection fees, etc.

All the above complies with the JBCC Advisory Notes on Lump sum contracts where bills of quantities are not used.  If you are dealing with a QS on this you can still put these amounts into the specification document for information for the QS to include in his bills.
