Technical Specifications
Brikgrip Blue D.P.C.
It is an embossed, flexible damp-proof course used to
resist rising damp, conduct penetrating rainwater in
walls, and resist horizontal penetration of wind-blown
rain. It complies with SABS 952-1985 Type B.
It is flexible over a wide temperature range, will not extrude under pressure,
resists punctures, and is light and easily handled. It is inert and does not
age, rot or decay. The embossing prevents slip and facilitates mortar application.
It is used as a damp proof course in the following
Brikgrip DPC General
In solid wall construction the Brikgrip DPC must be at least 3 courses above finished ground level on the inner leaf In cavity construction the Brikgrip DPC must be at least 2 courses above ground level on the inner skin. The cavity below the damp-course must be filled and splayed to the underside of the stepped DPC Under-sill flashing Brikgrip DPC must be well tucked to the underside of the sill component or tacked to the timber sub-frame if wooden windows have been specified. It is preferable to step down one course. At lintels, take Brikgrip DPC to at least 150mm above openings on the inner skin and dress to outer skin over frame. At underside of flat roof slabs, step Brikgrip DPC to the outside. The omission of this detail can lead to chronic inward capillary movement of moisture at the interface of the slab and the brickwork. At reveals, the Brikgrip DPC must cover the brick reveal return and be tacked to the joint of the framing component. Lap and join the lintel level DPC.
