The Owens Corning South Africa operation is divided into three divisions:

Owens Corning South Africa is the leading manufacturer and supplier of fibreglass materials, used by various industries including the petrochemical, mining, power generation, automotive, building, construction, telecommunications and marine sectors, as well as in the materials handling, recreation, transportation and electronics industries.

Structured to succeed
The company has manufacturing sites in Springs (Gauteng) and Babelegi (Northern Province). Products are distributed directly and via Distributors, located around the country.

History of the Company
In 1955, PG & SI and Fibreglass Ltd. in England, commissioned the building of an insulation plant in Springs, South Africa. Six years later, in 1961, Owens Corning Fibreglass Corp acquired a 24% interest, and a marble melt operation was commissioned in 1963.

In 1982, Federale Volksbeleggings purchased the entire shareholding and renamed the company AFI.

AFI acquired MWM in 1989. A management buy-out occured two years later.

In 1996, Owens Corning acquired a 51% stake in AFI.
