CHOPPED STRAND MAT
M143 Kwikmat
Kwikmat is a powder bound, general purpose, chopped strand mat designed to cover
a wide range of applications by hand lay-up techniques. It is bonded together
with a small amount of highly soluble powered polyester binder and is designed
to be randomly orientated and multi-resin compatible.
Benefits
The mat is manufactured from E Glass and has a sizing system which is highly
soluble in styrene which results in very fast wet out times, good drape properties, improved
productivity and lower resin : glass ratios with polyester resins. The silane coupling
agent is also reactive to epoxy and vinyl ester systems.

Processes
M143 Kwikmat is recommended for skin coating and back up laminating in
general purpose, open mould processes. Suitable end uses include marine, consumer, recreational, corrosion, construction and
transportation products. Kwikmat is not recommended for cold press and RTM techniques.
However, excellent results are obtained with vacuum formed sandwich construction
applications.
Mass/Unit Area
Kwikmat is available as standard in 300, 450 and 600 g/m².
Width
The standard width of Kwikmat is 1300 mm, untrimmed.
Packaging
Kwikmat is individually wrapped in stretch wrap and packed into a heavy duty LDPE
sleeve.
 Approval
Kwikmat is manufactured in accordance with the requirements of the South African Bureau
of Standards specification SABS 419-1972. Kwikmat is approved by Lloyds Register of
Shipping as reinforcement material for seagoing craft.
Non-Standard Items
Kwikmat can be supplied in non-standard untrimmed and trimmed widths subject to
minimum order quantities of 2000kg.
Storage
It is recommended that fibreglass is kept at a temperature not exceeding 25°C and a
relative humidity not exceeding 65%.
