ROCKWOOL RIGID PIPE SECTIONS
Description
Resin bonded
Rockwool, preformed into rigid, cylindrical sections. Available plain or covered with canvas where painting/colour coding is required or covered with aluminium foil where a vapour barrier is required. Specially developed additives are used which give the product high resistance to the ingress and absorption of water. This water repellency is an integral feature of the insulation, and not simply a surface treatment.
Application
Thermal and acoustic insulation of pipework in power generation, oil refineries, chemical plants and on industrial steam and process
pipework.
Water Repellency
Has been tested for water absorption using both the Partial and Total Immersion tests of BS2972:1989 Section 12. Results of these tests show that the preformed pipe sections are non-capillary and are water repellent to international standards.
Operating Temperature
Plain preformed pipe sections can be used at continuous operating temperatures of up to
650ºC. Canvas covered and foil faced pre-formed pipe sections - limiting temperature of outer facing is
50ºC.
Acoustic Performance
Will provide effective acoustical insulation where there is a need to reduce noise levels from
pipework. Actual performance varies with thickness and surface finish.
Thermal Conductivity and Calculations

Permanence
Is rot-proof, does not sustain vermin and will not encourage the growth of fungi, mould or bacteria. Will not settle under vibration and is dimensionally stable under varying conditions of temperature and humidity.
Fire Performance
Non-combustible - conforms to SABS 0177 Part V.
Class I Fire Index - conforms to SABS 0177 Part III.
Standard Dimensions
Length: 1000mm
Bore size: to insulate steam pipes from 15 mm NB to 700mm NB
Thickness: 25mm to 100mm
Nominal Density:
<200 mm NB 185 kg/m3.
>200 mm NB 160 kg/m3
Biosolubility
Is soluble in lung fluid. It will thus dissolve in a matter of days and pass through the body naturally.
Chloride Content
Contains inherently low levels of water-leachable chlorides, max. 5ppm, and will neither cause nor promote corrosion. The preformed pipe insulation helps to prevent the migration of chlorides from the environment to the insulated surface.
