Guide to Building regulations

The application of safety glazing materials is laid down in SABS 0400-1990 (The code of Practice of the National Building Regulations.)

SABS 0400 in turn refers to SABS 0137 (the code of Practice of the installation of glazing materials in buildings) the definition of safety glazing is covered by SABS 1263-1. It includes an impact test, a laminated glass longevity test and, most critically, requires all safety glass to be permanently marked.

Put simply, if it is not marked it is not a safety glass.

The following pages summarise where Safety glazing should be used and which PFG Products are best suited for these applications. For more details refer to Part N of section 3 SABS 0400-1990 or contact PFG Customer Services.
